As autumn comes around, so does the indoor volleyball season in Guernsey. Once again SPF are delighted to sponsor a Mens, Ladies and a Mixed team.

As the SPF Volleyball Club enters its third season of existence, there is a lot to be positive about. The mantra of SPF Volleyball has always been fun and inclusivity but also about dedication to training and improvement and it shows as the teams are looking stronger than ever.

Mens Team

The Mens team finished second in the league last year but are looking like the favourites to win the title already. Although a few players have moved on to retire from the sport or to university, the team is looking very strong in the early stages of the season, particularly thanks to the impressive progress of the junior players. Their positive development resulted in them becoming the starting members in every match and is vital in the team’s success.

In the first match of the season, SPF beat Spike Tyson 3 sets to 0. Spike Tyson are the champions of the last 3 seasons, although it must be said that, with a focus on development for the future, they have a lot of new faces this season.

Mixed Team

Volleyball in Guernsey is growing, with more teams this season, the mixed league is divided into two divisions, with SPF playing in the top division against the very best players the island has to offer. Although the team lost their first two matches, they were against the previous champions and runner up, and both matches were tight and going right to the wire in the final set.

Ladies Team

The Ladies league is starting mid-November, and we are very excited to welcome some new players to the SPF Ladies team. With a mix of volleyball experiences, the players fit in right away, sharing the same positive attitude as the long-time SPF veterans.

The photo below was taken at the Ladies pre-season friendly matches, the team played well and looks very promising for the upcoming season.
