SPF are delighted to announce that they are continuing to sponsor volleyball teams in the 2022/23 Guernsey Volleyball Indoor League.

For the first time SPF are sponsoring 3 teams in the form of a mens, mixed and ladies team.

All members of the SPF Ladies team from last season have returned for this season. Coach Robbie Le Messurier is delighted by this and has devised a training plan for the season to build on the strong debut the team made in 2021/22.

The SPF Mens team has several new faces. With the retirement of longstanding players Ryan Martel and Steve Adam, the SPF team, with an eye on development, has recruited 3 talented junior players into the team: Alex Guillou, Tahmid Rahman and Harry Swain. The boys were also pleased to recruit long time friend of the team, JJ Paes.

Match Report – SPF Mixed vs Unite the Union, 26th September 2022

SPF Private Clients mixed team made its debut against Unite with the return of volleyball back to Beau Sejour after a pandemic induced hiatus and the first set of indoor matches since the summer break.

SPF had a strong first few points with some textbook volleyball and a brilliant middle hit from Robbie, and outside from Tahmid. Accurate passing from Kirsten allowed Nat and Tori to set the team up for success with JJ ensuring that tips from Unite weren’t going to make too big a dent in the score. Unite piled the pressure on to draw even and played some brilliant volleyball for a tight first set win of 25 – 20

A few unforced errors in passing allowed Unite to maintain a small lead throughout the second set with some great back court coverage from Alex. Heather had some strong serves with Harry using his height advantage to confidently block at the net. Nat maintained a fantastic service run however the new SPF team didn’t quite have the practice to pull ahead of the seasoned players in Unite, losing the second set 25- 16.

Overall a strong start for the SPF mixed team, who produced confident and technical volleyball for their first time playing together. Who knows what else they’ll be able to bring to the rest of the season!
