SPF Volleyball Match Report

8th October 2021 vs Sure Spikers

SPF won 3 sets to 0, 25:10, 25:10, 25:21

SPF Most Valuable Player: 7 – Joe Baines

SPF Private Clients Men celebrated their first game of the Indoor Mens League on Friday 8th October with a confident win over new team the Sure Spikers. Long-time outside hitter Joe Baines has moved to setter this season and ran the offence well throughout the match. Baines confidently found middle blocker Matt Ashworth with an early quick set to ensure SPF took the lead in the first set. Sure Spikers are a new team and fought well, however, they passed a number of free balls back over the net which SPF were able to capitalise on. Baines moved the ball to the left side to find outside hitters Jack Nurdin and Jack Hoskins for numerous points to close out the first set.

The second set started with Hoskins guiding an outside set into the far corner of the Sure Spikers’ court for a point. Hoskins returns to his family sport of volleyball after a long hiatus but showed no signed of rust. After some confusion leading to two rotation violations in a row for SPF, the team rallied for a 5-point lead off the back of excellent serving from Ashworth. The set was capped off by a thunderous kill from Nurdin: Finding himself with a tight set and no block, he hammered the ball straight down into the floor. Third set was a match closer affair and credit must go to Sure Spikers captain Ben Duddy for showing resilience throughout. Sure setter Tom Clemens made smart choices throughout distributing the ball to his new teammates.

In the end the experience of SPF won out and they closed for a 3 sets to 0 win.
